As the 2010 deadline banning the use of virgin R22 refrigerant approaches, Coolmation Service has secured an agreement to supply and install a new R22 replacement refrigerant, a cost effective high performance alternative. This deal will bring significant benefits to facilities managers and end-users seeking to extend the life span of their R22 chiller while complying with legislation.

The refrigerant is a straightforward replacement requiring minimum engineering work, and, in most cases, requires no change of lubricants. Designed specifically to replace R22 refrigerant in water chillers, it operates very close to R22’scooling capacity and energy performance characteristics, showing distinct improvements over other R22 replacement alternatives currently on the market.

The release follows years of laboratory and global field testing, with assistance provided in the UK by Coolmation Service. Coolmation has already converted the remaining R22 chillers in its hire fleet to this new refrigerant.

Coolmation Service is recognised as an experienced chiller service organisation and through its joint work on this latest product for water chillers, the company now sees itself at the forefront of this technology.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to promote this product,” adds Martin Poyner, Director at Coolmation Services. “Extensive trialling of the product has given us the confidence to offer it to the many water chiller end-users who are currently facing tough financial decisions in the current downturn. End-users can now comply with legislation by making a straightforward switch away from R22 and thus extend the life of their existing chillers without having to consider the high cost of replacing them. At Coolmation Service, we have the qualifications, approval and licensing to carry out these R22 conversions quickly and cost-effectively.”

Current legislation will result in a total ban on the use of virgin R22 by 2010. Recycled R22 should be available until 2015, but many larger corporations are already stock piling it in advance of this need. The likely result is that the amount of recycled R22 becoming available to the general market will fall far short of demand leading to a sharp escalation in its price. Replacing R22 now with this high performance alternative is a cost-effective solution for commercial and industrial end-users.
